Howletts - Take Over Weekend - 2025
It was not just the sound of animals howling in Bekesbourne over the 27th and 28th September but the joyous sound of just over 1,700 Squirrels, Beaver Scouts, Cubs ooh and leaders from 14 Kent Scout Districts ‘Taking Over’ Howletts Wild Animal Park in glorious September sunshine.
The ‘Funny Bums’ (animals only) photo competition was a great success and the prizes of huge breakfast club and playground equipment bags were very well received even if they did take up the whole back seats of leaders’ cars. The runners up prizes were the ‘Funny Buns and Freak beaks’ books which are a great read – however please keep Jenn away from the Poo in the Zoo book series as goodness only knows what a future competition could be.
We had some amazing compliments from the public about the behaviour of all the sections, but the staff faces in the shop when everyone decided it was gift buying time was a sight to behold.
We have already been asked by Howletts if we would like a return visit and this could certainly be on the agenda for a couple of years’ time.
